Sunday, March 25 is the deadline for the 2nd international Alps Art Academy that will take place in the Safiental (Grisons, Switzerland). The 10-day program is held every two years and focuses on land and environmental art. The Alps Art Academy creates a platform for proposals for a possible future Land Art, which integrates the landscape, nature and the environment as well as history and society into its production. The academy will welcome 25 to 30 participants that will submit a project idea, portfolio and motivation letter.

This year’s theme is “Horizontal – Vertical” and relates to the canonical land and earth artworks of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which were often located in deserts and were predominantly concerned with the ‘horizontal’. This is juxtaposed with younger tendencies and positions from the Alpine area which are increasingly concerned with the ‘vertical’. The artworks, performances, texts and concepts created during the academy will be presented to the public during the final day of the Academy, on the 7th of July 2018 which will coincide with the opening of Art Safiental (7 July – 21 October 2018, in Tenna).
