Shylight movie by Studio Drift

by Studio Drift

The Rijksmuseum has acquired an installation with five Shylights by Studio Drift, a performative sculpture that unites the movement of industrial motors with silk chalice structures.
“We have always been fascinated by movements in nature and that’s how we started the project that we call ShyLight. You can find so much emotion if you look at flowers or other elements in nature and we wanted to mimic this movement. We started making paper models maybe 50 or 60 different models until we found the perfect mathematical pattern. We were looking for a structure in these patterns so that, if they had flown down, they could have caught the wind opening up in a natural way”
